Epson developed a high-temperature polysilicon (HTPS) TFT liquid crystal panel for HDTV (1080p) home theatre projectors. As HTPS is a transmissive technology (light passes through the device rather than being reflected), a very high light-efficiency can be obtained that outperforms both LCOS and micro-mirror devices. The 42x35.5x5.9mm device targets 1080p wide-format TV panels and supports 12-bit signal processing for playing high-resolution broadcasts. Colour reproduction is better than one billion colours and 6,220,000 dots (1920x1080xRGB). Pixel pitch is 15 microns, aperture ratio is 56% and contrast is 500:1.
