The EC60A15 Series of hollow shaft incremental encoders offer a surface area for the hollow shaft three times that of previous ALPS products. The device has a 61.8mm external diameter, is 22.5mm high, and has an internal shaft diameter of 42.8mm that allows for more freedom in terms of functionality or visual design, such as the incorporation of several switches or operational icons in the centre of the dial. The encoders were designed for the control of automotive audio systems or air conditioning systems. Because the working part and sliding surfaces are both made of plastic, the unit gives the user the feeling of "smooth clicks" when rotating the dial. Other features include a resolution of 15 pulses per turn, with 30 detents and a rotation life of 30,000 cycles. The unit is rated for 5Vdc operation at up to 0.5mA and is suitable for use at temperatures ranging from -30 to +80°C.
