Synplicity enhanced its Synplify DSP synthesis solution toinclude new DSP synthesis optimisations for performanceand area, additional Blockset functionality, including supportfor saturation, rounding, and a customisable DSP blocklibrary. The Synplify DSP software provides users of the Simulinkdesign environment from The MathWorks with the industry'sonly technology-independent DSP synthesis path from Simulink to hardware. This feature enables designers to select theirFPGA of choice for hardware implementation. The tool optimises Simulink designs by producing circuits that can deliverfaster performance and smaller area than alternative DSPimplementation tools, claims the manufacturer. Included in theSynplify DSP software is a set of functional blocks commonlyused in DSP design, such as filtering (FIR, IIR), transforms, math functions, CORDIC, signal operations, memories and controllogic. These technology-independent blocks are built upon TheMathWorks' fixed point data type and are tightly integratedinto The MathWorks environment. This allows the algorithmdesigner to continue to use familiar Simulink capabilities suchas discrete-time simulation, multi-rate management, fixed-point quantisation and scope debugging. By building customised IP with Synplicity's Blockset, users can take full advantage of the system-level optimisation engine within the software tool.
