The TSL2560 and TSL2561 digital light sensors convert light intensity to a digital signal output capable of direct SMBus or I2C interface, respectively. The devices target ambient light sensing in display backlighting and keyboard illumination applications to help extend battery life and provide optimum viewing in diverse lighting conditions. The TSL2560 is intended for use in notebook and tablet PCs while the TSL2561 suits LCD monitors, flat-panel televisions and cell phones or even digital cameras. Both devices can calculate light intensity in lux over an effective 20-bit dynamic range, with a 16-bit resolution and without the use of an expensive filter. Measured light levels range from 0.1 to 40,000 lux. The devices operate from 2.7 to 3.3V and come in 6-pin CSP 1.7x1.2x0.7mm or transfer-moulded board 3.8x2.6x1.4mm packages.
