The SSD2218 is a TFT driver controller with an integrated MIPI interface. This integration reduces the number of signal connections between the host processor and the LCD driver to only four wires. The chip not only saves on interconnect costs but also reduces electromagnetic interferences and enhances reliability. The controller alone can work with MIPI-compliant processors. Together with Solomon Systech's SSD2802 MIPI master bridge chip, non-MIPI processors can also take advantage of the MIPI interface. The controller can drive a 262K/16M colour-amorphous TFT panel with a resolution of 240 RGB sources x 320 gates. The IC embeds a DC/DC converter and a voltage regulator to generate all necessary voltage levels to the a-TFT panel. It provides an 8-colour power-saving mode to reduce the energy consumption in portable devices. The source- and gate-scan direction can be controlled by software commands.
