Saft has been awarded a major multi-year contract by the U.S. Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) to supply the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps with a family of lithium sulphur dioxide (Li-SO2) batteries.
The terms of the contract include six Li-SO2 batteries for several portable military applications such as communication, GPS and rescue systems.
The contract was awarded to Saft for 100% of the U.S. military needs for the Li-SO2 type of battery. The contract with DLA is an indefinite quantity contract, with a two-year base period for an amount of up to $10 m and three one-year option periods for a total amount of up to $26.6 m.
The contract will be supplied from Saft's Valdese N.C. facility that has been a leading supplier of these types of military batteries through both Middle East conflicts.
The new contract further validates Saft's position as a leading supplier of lithium batteries to the U.S. Army and its commitment to an economical chemistry, with a proven record for success in the field.
