Gennum which specialises in IP cores and semiconductors for broadcast and video, to to buy fellow Ontario-based bridge and switch company, Tundra Semicondutor for (Canadian) $68million or approximately $55million.
The acquisition, expected to be finalised in June, will add new digital switch and bridge products and functionality to Gennum.
Gennum has been building its profile in the video broadcast market, and believes that Tundra can inject digital expertise, application knowledge and high-speed interconnect products into its business model of developing high-speed signal integrity products and IP. The aim is to introduce products into new markets such as telecommunications, computing and storage.
Gennum hopes this transaction will increase its market presence in a market that it estimates to be worth $1.9million with signal integrity, bridge and switches using RapidIO, VME, SI and HDMI as well as PCI Express.
