Victrex Polymer Solutions has added the ST polymer to its Peek range. This polymer has been designed to perform specifically in applications requiring a combination of high temperature, high mechanical performance and high dimensional stability. There are two versions that have been introduced: the STG45 polymer is an unfilled granule grade, while the ST45GL30 polymer is a glass-filled granule grade. The polymer was developed in response to customer demands for a high-performance material with improved mechanical performance at higher temperatures while maintaining properties of purity, electrical resistance, chemical resistance, dimensional stability and low permeability/moisture absorption. When compared to other unfilled/unreinforced polymers, the STG45 grade features improved mechanical performance especially in the temperature range from +150 to +200°C. The ST45GL30 grade polymer features a heat-distortion temperature of +380°C and therefore opens up new project opportunities for use in applications that demand higher temperatures. It can be used in the automotive, oil and gas, or electronics industry. The two polymers are intended to be used as a metal-replacement option for many types of applications, for example as seals, disk-drive carriers, connectors, turbo-charger impellers, rings, test sockets, wire coatings and valve plates.
