As electronic devices get smaller and thinner, Energizer believes that its new battery form factor will provide longer run times and enable smaller devices. The company's Zinc Air batteries use the same zinc-air technology as that found in hearing-aid batteries, in which zinc reacts with oxygen in the air to generate power. Compared to lithium-ion rechargeable products, such batteries are cheaper and eliminate the need for charge circuitry and a charging device. A 5mm-thin prismatic or rectangular construction, has the highest energy density of any consumer portable power solution: up to three times more runtime compared to alkaline or lithium-ion batteries with similar volumes, claims the company. The battery has air access holes, which are sealed with a tab until the consumer is ready to use the battery.
