GPS receiver modules specifically for the automotive industry have been added to the Vinotech product portfolio. The A1088-A includes the SiRFstarIII chipset and is described as a complete GPS receiver module sub-system, solely using AEC-Q-compliant components. Design and manufacture is to ISO/TS 16949. The module is also completely shielded, the shield carries a barcode containing all the module's relevant data, including a serial number. The module is designed for use with active antennae and reaches an acquisition sensitivity of -145dBm. The operating environment allows for cold-start conditions and calculates a first position within less than 35s. In tracking mode, sensitivity goes down to -159dBm. The current draw is typically only 32mA at 3.3V. The module features additional low-power modes, where the current draw can be reduced to only 10µA. The module is specified for the industrial-temperature range, from -40 to +85°C. The outer dimensions are 19x28mm with the solder pads on the rim of the module. This enables a 100% optical inspection to be performed during assembly. Evaluation boards are also available to speed the integration of the GPS in the demanding automotive environment.
