Astrosyn International Technology has introduced high torque stepper motors with an adaptable rear shaft, which can be fitted with an accessory such as a brake or an encoder. The rear shafts of the heavy-duty L280RE models have a drilled recess in their end, enabling a custom diameter shaft extension to be attached.
The Nema size 34 stepper motors offer high torque outputs of up to 10Nm. This is achieved through extended length rotor stacks and the use of rare earth materials for the rotor magnets.
The 1.8° stepping angle motors are optimised for better torque characteristics, with low detent torque to holding torque ratios for a smooth operation. Their bigger precision bearings can handle high axial loads.
Stack lengths range from 96 to 142mm. Their 12mm diameter shaft has a 4mm wide keyway.
Brakes are frequently added to the z-axis motor of three-axis machines as a failsafe to prevent the load from falling back in the event of a power failure. They are also incorporated where a fixed position is required in part of a duty cycle. Brakes or encoders can be held in position on the stepper motor through four M3.3 mounting holes on the rear flange.
