UK company Silvertel has added the IEEE 802.3at-compliant Ag5100 series of PoC (Power-over-Ethernet) modules to its offering of PoE products for powered devices and power-sourcing equipment. The modules are aimed at developers of Ethernet equipment requiring up to 30W of power, such as pan, tilt and zoom cameras; WiMAX-access points; electronic point-of-sale terminals; door-entry systems; and thin client terminals. According to the company, they provide a low-cost drop-in IEEE802.3at solution. Providing the two-event classification required by IEEE802.3at, the module also includes a high efficiency DC/DC converter, capable of providing a nominal 12 or 24V output, which can be programmed to yield any voltage from 11 to 29V. This range is particularly useful for applications requiring the inclusion of battery chargers. Additional features include 1500V isolation (input to output), as well as overload, short-circuit and thermal protection. The modules require only a few low-cost external components, claims the company, and they are compact to save PCB real estate. Evaluation boards are also available.
