QuickLogic's CSSPs (Customer Specific Standard Products) combining silicon and software, are being adopted by Option Wireless in a line of 3G Cat9 (10.1Mbit/s) and Cat10 (14.4Mbit/s) HSDPA USB modems for wireless communications over mobile phone networks. According to the modem company, the iCON505M series of 3G USB models can add up to 32Gbyte of micro SD memory to the modem's capacity to share downloaded content with smartphones, smartbooks, netbooks, multimedia players and other consumer electronic devices. The USBs can also be used to simplify the exchange of files between PCs, or the transfer of images between digital cameras and a PC. While consumers want transfers to be completed in less and less time, the increase in use of large multimedia files being transferred or shared becomes a challenge. According to the customisable silicon company, the CSSP enables the modems to achieve 16Mbyte/s read performance and 7.4Mbyte/s write performance when transferring files between a notebook PC and a microSD memory card in the modem. The two companies report that a similar product from a competitor, but without the CSSP, was measured at less than 1Mbyte/s for both read and write performance. The modem supports the company's uCAN Move application which allows user to access their applications, content and personal internet connection, with one click, from any PC.
