Aeroflex Metelics has released a family of surface-mount GaAs and Silicon Schottky mixer/detector diodes for high-volume pick-and-place applications. These control devices are delivered in a plastic SMT package with standard dimensions of 45X75X31mils. The SMGS family of detectors and mixers includes GaAs model SMGS11, which is suitable for temperature-compensation applications. This device operates at greater than 26.5GHz and features a minimum breakdown voltage of 5V, a typical capacitance of 0.10pF and a maximum resistance of 7Ohm. The family also features GaAs model SMG21, which is an anti-parallel pair suitable for use in doubler and harmonic mixer designs. The SMG21 also operates at greater than 26.5GHz and offers a typical capacitance of 0.15pF, a forward-voltage minimum/maximum of 620/760mV, and a maximum resistance of 7Ohm. Silicon zero-bias Schottky diodes SMS201 and SMS202 are designed for broadband-detector applications as they do not require DC bias and offer a sensitivity of -54dBm. The SMS201 operates at greater than 26.5GHz, while the SMS202 operates at less than 18GHz.
