Vincotech has launched a GPS receiver module based on SiRFstarIV technology. The A2100 module is built around the GSD4e chip with advanced firmware. The special SiRFaware technology allows the module to be in a state of readiness at all times and to monitor and maintain precise time, internal frequencies, and satellite orbit information (ephemeris) - all at 500µA of current consumption. Thus the module will be able to respond to a position request within seconds. Continuously reporting a fix in advanced trickle power mode can be achieved with a current draw of less than 6.5mA. Combining a tracking sensitivity of -163dBm and an autonomous acquisition sensitivity of -148dBm, the module is suitable for all GPS applications requiring low power consumption in harsh environmental conditions. The GSD4e chip supports detection and removal of up to eight in-band jammers and allows the use of satellite-based augmentation systems. SiRFInstantFix, an extended ephemeris solution, combined with SiRFaware help to further reduce power consumption. The module is designed to support additional sensor interfaces and communication via UART, SPI, or I2C.
