Arasan Chip Systems has made available a portfolio of memory card controller IP cores and corresponding software stacks. The IP supports the Secure Digital (SD or SDIO 3.0), Multimedia Card (e.MMC 4.4), Memory Stick (MSPro, MSPro-Duo), CompactFlash (CF+) and Picture Card (xD) card formats. The removable, non-volatile memory cards are used to store and distribute content in portable media players, megapixel DSC, smartphones, netbooks, gaming consoles and consumer electronics. The IP allows designers to optimise controller architecture based on the usage model and form-factor of the end-device. Applications requiring high levels of security and boot capability will combine SD and e.MMC controllers, whereas those requiring frequent insertion and removal might add support for the larger CompactFlash cards.
