Fabless semiconductor company, Silego Technology, has introduced the SLGSSTE32882U-B04B GreenDDR3. It is the company's second generation of registers, the first DDR3 was introduced last year. This iteration is prefixed 'Green' as it delivers 40% less power than the closest competitor on the market, according to the company and delivers 25% less power than the company's earlier version. The register can be used to cover all DDR3 speed grades from 800 to 1600MHz and voltage rails from 1.25 to 1.5V. The low power rail supports power reducing initiatives. Added on to memory modules, it can increase memory to a server and can save 63.9kW a year, says the company. The universal register supports all module power rail voltages and can save enough energy, says the company to pay for the cost of all registers over a server's life time. The company's PLL design achieves low jitter, reduces system timing, and optimises voltage margins down to 1.2V. The register removes speed screening and associated inventory costs, and has a BIST feature to reduce test time and cost. There are two versions available, both are JEDEC-compliant. The first is described as the world's lowest power DDR3 register; the second version uses the company's Dynamic IBT technology that, according to the company, yields an additional power saving of up to 40%, compared to competitive registers.
