For use in high-speed medical applications of up to 90,000RPM, Maxon Motor has introduced two 50W drives that can be sterilised. The EC Size 5 and EC 13 are standalone or can be used in a motor/gear combination. The drives deliver torques of up to 8mNm at 90% efficiency of 90%. The Size 5 motor measures 0.5inch outside diameter and a shaft of 0.125inch. The EC 13 model has an outer diameter of 13mm, a 3mm shaft and a flange with three-face side threads. A compact design has been adapted for medical use. Other features are a high nominal speed, quiet running and minimised heat generation. The motors are available with Hall sensors or sensorless and with three different windings. Gearheads have reductions of 5:1 to 125:1.
