A dual redundant output contactless rotary position sensor, the SRH220DR, is available from Penny + Giles. It uses non-contact programmable Hall-effect technology to provide OEMs with accurate rotary measurement in extreme industrial and off-highway environments, says the company. This sensor, with a choice of integrated six-way connectors, provides several programmable options. Designed for operation in extreme temperatures it enables system designers to improve the safety and integrity of control systems by using the dual independent power supply and output signals, allowing compliance with SIL-2 requirements for systematic safety as defined in IEC 61508. The configurable sensor is user programmable with 341 angles, from 0 to 360° and with parameter options including measurement range, and clockwise or anticlockwise direction output. As a result, OEMs can configure the sensor to suit their needs and achieve maximum performance. The sensor requires 5V DC regulated or 9 to 30V DC unregulated power supply. Over-voltage protection is to 40V DC.
