Digi International has selected Ericsson to provide 3G cellular connectivity for M2M (machine-to-machine) applications. Ericsson's 3G HSPA modules enable high-speed cellular connectivity across selected Digi Connect and Digi TransPort cellular gateways. The cellular gateways provide primary and backup connectivity through high-speed 3G connections to remote sites and devices. They are suitable for remote device connectivity in sectors as diverse as energy, transportation, financial, retail, and other M2M applications. The HSPA technology also enables a range of new, high-speed M2M applications, according to the company. These include video surveillance applications, where high-bandwidth and high upload speeds are required. From remote energy to point-of-sale applications, Digi offers a range of cellular gateways which have been designed specifically for M2M applications.
