TRaC has added formal certification testing to the recent ZigBee healthcare profile to its assessment offerings. The healthcare technology has been chosen by the Continua Alliance to support its range of health care products. According to the test group, the certification testing provides a global standard for low-power, interoperable devices for monitoring-and-management roles in non-acute healthcare situations used in the home, in medical centres, and in nursing homes. In addition to test and certify compliance with the ZigBee specification, the company has an accredited service, in testing to several other standards which are likely to apply to new products in the medical sector, i.e. the low voltage directive and the medical devices directive. The company is one of only three ZigBee Alliance recognised test houses (and the only one with its main offices in Europe). The company has also added testing for the ZigBee telecomms services profile. This global standard for wireless sensor networks will supply information, location-based services, entertainment content, payment and billing services, and data-exchange services to devices based around the mobile phone.
