NEC Electronics Europe has introduced a transistor-output optocoupler in a 4pin L-SOP package that features a maximum package height of 2.3mm (mounted on the board). On the other side, a long distance between input and output pins is maintained to meet high isolation requirements. Consequently clearance and outer creepage distances of minimum 8mm and a high isolation voltage of 5000Vrms (maximum) can be specified with this package. The PS2381-series optocouplers operate from -40 up to +115°C ambient temperatures. Output collector to emitter voltages up to 80V can be applied and maximum output collector current of 50mA can be obtained. The devices can operate at both 1 and 5mA LED input currents and the values for the current transfer ratio are specified for both input current levels. The optocouplers are lead free, RoHS-compliant and halogen-free. They feature the international safety certificates such as UL, CSA, and VDE. All of these features make them suitable for industrial applications where components are packed densely, such as switched-mode power supplies, motor control, lighting and heating controls.
