Renesas Electronics has announced the availability of two SoCs for digital TVs, set top boxes, and digital broadcast receiver modules. The EMMA3TJ and the EMMA3TS target the terrestrial digital broadcasting market in Japan and South American countries. The EMMA3TJ SoC is for use in digital TVs, while the EMMA3TS SoC is for set-top boxes. Both include demodulator circuits for the ISDB-T terrestrial digital broadcast format used in Japan and South America, as well as circuits for the ISDB-S satellite broadcast format used in Japan; decoder circuits for the MPEG2 and H.264 video compression standards; and peripheral interface circuits for USB 2.0 and Ethernet connectivity. The EMMA3TJ also includes functions needed to implement 3D TVs, making it possible to display 3D video from digital broadcasts or Blu-ray discs. It integrates a decoding circuit for input signals in the 3D HDMI1.4a format. The SoCs were designed to enable reception and display of content broadcast in the ISDB-T and ISDB-S formats. The SoCs include USB 2.0 and Ethernet MAC interfaces to display video content via the Internet. Electronica: Hall A6: stand 413
