Two ADCs from Wolfson Microelectronics, the WM8788 and WM8789, are claimed to deliver enhanced audio to home entertainment applications. These advanced stereo audio ADCs are available in small 16pin packages and deliver audio, which improves the audio performance of LCD televisions, DVD players and recorders, Blu-ray players and set-top box applications. Both converters are powered from a single 3.3V supply rail and feature a pair of stereo analogue audio inputs for capturing line level inputs in the 1Vrms range with signal to noise ratio performance of 106dB and 93dB of THD+N. Input signals more than 1Vrms are captured by configuring external resistors. The WM8789 features an extra pair of stereo analogue inputs. The ADCs output 16, 20 or 24bit stereo data on the digital audio interface and operate in both master and slave modes. Both devices also have a digital high pass filter for noise and DC offset removal. In addition they support audio sample rates from 8 to 192kHz, while master clock ratios of 128 up to 768fs are possible.
