A digital output magnetic sensor series offered by Toshiba Electronics Europe is claimed to provide high sensitivity and low power operation in small surface-mount packages. The sensor ICs support the demand for power saving functionality in portable, battery-operated equipment as well as home appliance or industrial applications. The TCS20Dxx series offers dual pole detection and is supplied in push-pull (TCS20DPx) or open drain (TCS20DLx) output configurations. The smallest package option is the compact CST6C package (for the TCS20DxC). Measuring 1.5x1.15mm with a height of 0.38mm, this version is suitable for non-contact switching applications such as open and close sensing in portable, battery-powered devices. The company also offers the TCS20DxR devices in SOT23F package options measuring 2.9x2.4x0.8mm. The Hall ICs have a maximum operating point magnetic flux density of 3.8mT and a minimum release point magnetic flux density of 0.3mT with a typical hysteresis rated at 1.4mT. These high levels of sensitivity allow the devices to be used in conjunction with small magnets to increase the potential applications. The ICs operate from recommended supply voltages between 2.3 and 3.6V and have a maximum supply voltage rating of 6V.
