Toshiba Electronics Europe has expanded its range of integrated motor pre-driver ICs with the introduction of the TB9067FNG which is optimised for BLDC motors with Hall effect position sensing. The IC integrates functions such as three-phase commutation logic and gate-driver circuitry, a 5.12MHz oscillator, 5V regulator, and circuitry to detect system status using BiCMOS integration. It also provides selectable features including a choice of PWM-pulse or DC-level input control, and the option to run the motor from an external signal or using an internally generated PWM signal. An optional rapid startup mode is also available, which can be selected via external mode-control pins. The motor and system errors detected by the IC's internal circuitry include over-current, and over and under-voltage of the IC or external driver MOSFETs. Over-current detection has two threshold levels for detecting motor-lock and short-circuits failures. It is suitable for brushed-motor replacement in pumping or motion-control applications. The VDD supply voltage of the IC ranges from 0.3 to +6V and bias voltage ranges from -0.3 to +40V. The device is rated with 250mA maximum output current and it draws 4mA typical IC current.
