Maxim Integrated Products has introduced the MAX6581, a ±1°C accurate, eight-channel temperature sensor. It has seven remote sensing channels to monitor ASICs, FPGAs, CPUs, and boards with multiple hot spots. Each remote channel includes series resistance cancellation and beta compensation for high accuracy. The temperature sensor requires only a single I2C address for eight channels of temperature acquisition. It reduces board area and overall system cost and can measure the die temperature of external ICs that have integrated thermal diodes. The sensor also compensates for parasitic series resistance. Any of the seven remote channels can be used to measure board temperature using a discrete diode-connected transistor. The temperature sensor is offered in a 4x4mm, 24pin TQFN package with an exposed pad and is specified for an operating temperature range of -40 to +125°C.
