Micron Technology announced the availability of a high-density Axcell NOR flash memory device for automotive applications. The NOR flash process technology in the device provides makers of infotainment, in-car computing and other automotive electronics with higher capacity storage options. The amount of memory inside automobiles continues to grow as powertrain controls, dashboard applications, in-car infotainment systems, and driver safety equipment are included in more models.
Micron's automotive portfolio includes legacy and advanced DRAM devices, NOR and NAND flash memories, and eMMC memory devices. The new 65nm, 512Mbit automotive Axcell NOR device with a parallel interface is compliant with automotive industry standards and meets the data integrity requirements for all flash memory components used in automobiles. The 512Mbit automotive NOR device is currently sampling. Micron plans to begin mass production in 2011.
