The Varistar LHX40 air/water heat exchanger from Schroff removes up to 40kW of waste heat per cabinet. The company claims that this enables increased server density of high performance blades without the risk of local hot spots or high overall ambient temperatures developing. The side-mounted unit fits to the left or right side of any 42U high, 1200mm deep cabinet. At only 200mm wide, it will fit comfortably into a standard 800mm wide enclosure, enabling full width 19inch front panel equipment to be housed. The unit can either be used as a closed loop device to cool a single cabinet fitted with solid front and rear doors. Alternatively, by fitting the host cabinet with ventilated doors, it can function as an in-row cooler within a suite of server cabinets. The enclosure although deeper, has the same height and depth dimensions as the company's earlier 20kW LHX20 unit, which provides a simple retrofit for users who need to have increased cooling capacity in existing 1200mm deep cabinets. The internal closed loop airflow is powered by seven hot-swap fans that distribute the cool air uniformly throughout the height of the cabinet, eliminating thermal gradients. The output air temperature from the unit can be set between 18 and 30°C.
