Laird Technologies has released its new OC51505 vertically polarised direct-mount omnidirectional antenna. The antenna operates in the 5150 to 5875MHz band with 5dBi gain and VPOL (linear vertical polarization). VPOL increases the range of the antenna over hilly terrain and also minimises the reception of interfering HPOL (horizontally polarised) UHF and VHF signals that are common in densely populated areas. The antenna is specifically designed to be used in indoor or outdoor WLAN applications.
The antenna offers full 802.11a wideband performance. Its 5GHz broadband WLAN performance measures up to the demands of interior and exterior mounted wireless network systems such as those found on college campuses, airports, hospitals, and transportation centers.
The antenna is claimed to be rugged and lightweight. The UV water resistant housing is fitted with an integrated RF connector that is embedded in the base cap for direct mounting to WLAN access points. Special venting permits either upright or inverted orientation in outdoor locations. The antenna may also be pole-mounted when separation from the AP is required for optimum positioning.
