The Wi-Fi Alliance reports nearly half of Wi-Fi users experience difficulty setting up secure networks. Up to 40% of consumers leave networks unsecured. In response, the Wi-Fi Alliance developed its Wi-Fi Protected Set-up industry standard. All that is required is the entry of a PIN code. Users no longer have to enter a network identifier (SSID) and pass phrase to enable WPA security. The standard automatically configures a wireless network with a network name (SSID) and strong WPA or WPA2 data encryption and authentication. GainSpan, an Ismosys partner has achieved Wi-Fi Certified for Wi-Fi Protected Set-up accreditation for its Wi-Fi Sensor reference design. Based on its GS1011 Wi-Fi SoC, the reference design is the first low power Wi-Fi design to achieve certification for enterprise level WPA or WPA2 security as well as personal security. The reference design supports data rates of up to 11Mbit/s and is able to operate in 802.11 b/g/n networks. The sensor reference design can be purchased from as part of an evaluation kit.
