Power Integrations has enhanced its Zero product portfolio, with the LinkZero-LP. The integrated offline switcher IC automatically enters a zero-input-power mode when disconnected, cutting no-load power consumption to 0.00W. It targets chargers and adapters up to 3.2W for small portable devices, including mobile phones, media players, eBook, tools, and toothbrushes. It eliminates no-load waste without a mechanical switch, using the EcoSmart energy-efficiency technology with a proprietary power-down mode that senses when no load is present and disables switching of the IC's internal high-voltage MOSFET. The device automatically restarts when a load is detected and enables power supplies with less than 20 external components. It is backward-compatible, enabling quick, easy conversion to zero-no-load with no increase in component count. Suitable for low-cost clampless designs, it exhibits tight IC parameter tolerances enhancing system manufacturing yield. An extended creepage distance in the SO-8C package, plus an integrated 700V MOSFET with hysteretic thermal shutdown protection improves system field reliability. The 100kHz operating frequency minimises charger size, and frequency jittering, reducing the cost of EMI filtering.
