Micron Technology has unveiled RealSSD solid-state drives for the flash-based notebook market. The SSDs incorporate the 25nm NAND flash technology, offering capacities from 64 to 512Gbyte. The drives are available in 1.8 and 2.5inch form factors. The drives also support the SATA 6Gbit/s interface, which opens up the data path between the host processor and are claimed to deliver improved overall system responsiveness including fast boot times and speedy application loads. The drives reach read speeds of up to 415Mbyte/s. With write performance varying by capacity, the drive achieves up to 260Mbyte/s write speeds. It also provides benefits for desktops, workstations and industrial applications, for example, low power consumption, lightweight construction and resistance to shock and vibration. Crucial, a division of Micron, will sell the solid state drives under the name Crucial m4 SSD.
