National Semiconductor has introduced three PowerWise 10Gbit/s repeaters that feature a high equalisation gain of 36dB and consume a power of 55mW/channel. The repeaters are powered by SiGe BiCMOS process. Target applications include high-speed active cable assemblies and FR-4 backplanes using serial protocols such as 10GbE, Fibre Channel, XAUI, CPRI, and Infiniband. The signal conditioners embedded inside the copper cable assemblies and backplane boards ensure signal integrity and reduce system power consumption. The modules allow the copper solutions to consume less power and also to give them long reach by using the SiGe BiCMOS process. The quad DS100BR410 repeater is suitable for high density connectors and incorporates four unidirectional channels and supports a 2.5V single-supply voltage. It performs receive equalisation and transmit de-emphasis to compensate for channel loss.
