To address the need for low operating voltages in battery-operated consumer products, Vishay Intertechnology has introduced a low-voltage supply option for 10 TSOP (thin small-outline package) IR series receivers. The V series devices operate at a supply voltage of 2V over a temperature range from 5 to 85°C.
The company claims that the non-linear battery discharge curve provides an additional 13h of operation before reaching 2V. Thus a receiver capable of operating to 2V can extend the useful battery life by a factor of more than four. Typical end products for the company's low-voltage supply option include digital still cameras, bi-directional remote controls, and 3D goggles. For additional power savings in battery-powered systems, the receivers feature a standby function.
The low-voltage supply option is available in six package types. The TSOP312, TSOP313, and TSOP314 receivers are available in cast packages whereas the TSOP38 and TSOP39 come in MiniCast packages. The TSOP32 and TSOP34 receivers are available in moulded packages. The TSOP35, TSOP75, and TSOP85 come in surface mount device, Heimdall, and bugeye packages, respectively.
