ON Semiconductor has introduced the NCP1234 and NCP1236 series of fixed frequency PWM current mode controllers for laptop and notebook computers, LCDs, printers and household consumer electronics. The current mode controllers and other energy efficient solutions were demonstrated by the company at the APEC 2011 conference. The current mode controllers allow offline power supplies to be designed into systems, and minimise the footprint and board space area.
They utilise a high voltage process technology, and integrate multiple features such as over power compensation and ramp compensation without increasing power dissipation or adding external components. High voltage dynamic self-supply technology enables direct connection to the line voltage and eliminates the need for startup resistors. This technology, when combined with the controllers' ability to automatically decrease frequency at light loads before entering skip mode, ensures good efficiency.
