In order to provide a simple solution for interfacing a PMC (PCI mezzanine card) or XMC (express mezzanine card) module to a VPX computer system, Acromag has introduced VPX4810 3U VPX (virtual path cross-connect) carrier cards. The cards route power and interface bus signals to a plug-in mezzanine module through the VPX card slot connector. An eight-lane PCIe (PCI Express) bus Gen 2 interface enables data throughput. They are suitable for industrial, defence, scientific research, and telephony systems. It supports any standard IEEE-1386.1 module to address I/O signal processing tasks. Re-configurable FPGA modules are also available in a PMC or XMC format with multi-lane serial interconnects for algorithm acceleration and adaptive computing applications. The carrier card conforms to VPX VITA 46.0, 46.4 and 46.9 specifications and optionally VITA 48 for ruggedised enhanced design implementation. It is also compatible with a variety of VITA 65 OpenVPX module and slot profiles. Sixty four I/O lines are supported through the P2 VPX connector. Front- and rear-panel I/O access can be accommodated. The PMC and XMC site uses 64bit, 66 and 133MHz PLX technology with a PCIe to PCI-X bridge for data transfer rates up to 1Gbit/s.
