RF Micro Devices has expanded its 5GHz WiFi product portfolio to include two 5GHz high-band WiFi FEMs (front end modules) with integrated PAs (power amplifiers). The RF5506 and RF5516 FEMs deliver high power and high linearity and are optimised for smartphone and tablet markets. The company claims to have developed the FEMs with high levels of integration, small package sizes, and good linearity performance to satisfy the market demand. It offers a portfolio of FEMs that include the PA, the switch, filtering, baluns and an optional low noise amplifier for both single-band and dual-band operation. The company's President stated that the WiFi market would expand significantly and will serve a variety of end markets such as home automation, WiFi TV, automotive, and personal computing.
