Knowles Acoustics has introduced a MEMS joystick that is suitable for navigating, scrolling, and playing games on handheld devices. The low-power KMJ0401IC, 40μA in active mode and 3μA in sleep mode, merges entertainment and data management with mobile communication devices. The joystick can be integrated into smart phones, tablet PCs, notebooks, e-readers, smart remote controllers, and wireless keyboards. It has a fully integrated ADC with I2C interface and measures 9.8x9.8x1.6mm. The company claims that the joystick also does not require additional controller IC and the low current consumption of the joystick enables power-sensitive devices and batteries to last for a long time.
