SiTime has released what it claims is the industry's lowest power high frequency oscillator. The SiT8004 reduces oscillator power consumption by up to 66% and is suitable for high performance networking, video, computing and storage applications. The oscillator is a drop-in replacement for quartz, reducing energy use. The MEMS-based oscillator features 6.7mA of typical current consumption at 125MHz, which is up to 66% lower than that of a standard crystal oscillator. In addition to supporting any frequency between 125 and 150MHz, it is also available in popular, pre-configured options such as 125 and 125.00375MHz for GPON, EPON and Gigabit Ethernet; 133 and 133.33333MHz for memory (DDR) and PCI; 148.5 and 148.35164MHz for HDMI and pixel clocks and 150MHz for SATA/SAS. It can also be configured to any custom frequency with five decimal places of accuracy (Frequencies such as 125.00375MHz are used for Gigabit Ethernet to improve BER.) Stability is down to ±20PPM to enhance system stability in cloud computing. The oscillator is supplied in all four industry-standard surface-mount packages (7x5, 5x3.2, 3.2x2.5 and 2.5x2mm). MTBF is 500million hours, critical to high reliability, fail-safe systems in networking, communication and servers. Shock resistance is up to 50,000G and vibration resistance is up to 70G.
