At the Globalpress Summit in Santa Cruz, California, VTI announced that is has begun volume production of what it claims is the world's smallest and lowest power digital three-axis angular rate sensor, the CMR3000. The sensor is optimised for user interface and gaming applications which require a measurement range of ±2000dps with selectable measurement bandwidths. The wafer level package enables an overall size of just 3.1x4.2x0.8mm³, and has digital SPI and I²C interfaces, for mobile phones. The sensor's small device size and location of the IOs mean that it can be accommodate another manufacturer's sensor on the same layout. According to the company, this solves a manufacturer's second source requirements to address component availability. Hardware and software support is also available, for example, an Android driver including the library, documentation and demo applications.
