MEN Mikro Elektronik has launched a peripheral board with four optical fibre channels that are connected to the backplane through a PCI Express x4 link. The G211F 3U Ethernet interface board offers space for four small form factor package transceivers for 1000Base-SX fibre optic interfaces. Small form factor transceivers can be inserted into the card cage on the board and accessed on separate front panels. All four interfaces are managed by an Ethernet controller that supports data rates of up to 500Mbit/s when all channels are operated simultaneously. The channels can also be configured as two redundant pairs. The Ethernet controller also complies with the IEEE 802.3x standard. The Ethernet interface can be used in either a pure CompactPCI Serial system or by combining it with a CompactPCI PlusIO SBC.
