Delivering a continuous load current of up to 3A, the AP6507 and AP6508 synchronous DC/DC buck converters from Diodes have input voltage ranges of 4.5 to 18V and 4.5 to 21V, respectively. According to the company, these converters offer an operating efficiency of 90% and support the needs of low voltage 5 and 12V bus systems in consumer electronic products including monitors, LCD TVs and set-top boxes. The converters use a simple external resistor divider and their adjustable output can be set to any voltage down to 0.8V. The company claims that the AP6507 and the AP6508 converters are housed in space-saving, exposed pad package options, the SO-8EP and DFN4030-14EP respectively, to meet demands for increased power densities. By operating at a switching frequency of 500kHz, the converters can make use of small external components. By integrating high- and low-side MOSFET switches, internal compensation and protection features, they also save PCB space. The integrated over-current protection and thermal shutdown features of both DC/DC converters increase system stability, claims the company. Additional features provided by the AP6508 are an externally programmable soft-start function and a power good flag, enabling the implementation of power sequencing and ramp control.
