Vishay Intertechnology has announced the addition of the W case for its low-ESR TR3 high-capacitance, high-voltage moulded tantalum chip capacitor. Measuring 7.3x6.0mm, with a height of 3.45mm, the case size allows for capacitance and voltage range enhancement. The company claims that by utilising the compact case capacitor, the component count can be reduced in applications where previously multiple components were used in parallel to achieve high bulk capacitance for energy storage, thus saving board space and reducing costs.
The capacitor is suitable for telecomms base stations, data storage and high-end computing, industrial computers, automotive, and military applications, and medical instrumentation. The RoHS-compliant case is suitable for high-volume automatic and manual pick-and-place equipment, and is capable of withstanding lead-free soldering reflow conditions, claims the company.
