Analog Devices has introduced a 16bit DAC that attains a noise of -164dBm/Hz in a 7x7mm lead frame chip scale package, making them suitable for wireless communication systems. The AD9146 DAC integrates an 8bit LVDS interface and phase-locked loop clock multiplier and implements up to six transmit channels. The company claims that the DAC features interpolators by a factor of two and four with coarse modulation that enables baseband signals to be placed in the DAC bandwidth. An inter-modulation distortion of 81dBc at 100MHz enables the DAC to achieve an adjacent-channel leakage ratio of 82dBc at 122MHz IF for wideband code division multiple access single-channel applications. The DAC features gain and phase adjustment for sideband suppression and also incorporates multiple chip synchronisation interfaces.
