TE Connectivity has launched a surface-mount LGA socket for Advanced Micro Devices' Opteron 6000 series server processor. The LGA 1944 socket includes contacts that have a diameter of 0.6mm solder balls for surface mounting onto a PCB. The circuit's top side provides a cantilever beam interface to the processor. The socket has a cap that provides vacuum pick-and-place functionality. The socket contacts also feature a 30inch gold plating.
