Semtech has launched a 40G DQPSK (differential quaternary phase-shift keying) modulator laser driver that is designed for use in telecommunications equipment supporting long-haul optical links. The SMI2030 laser driver, when combined with the company's DQPSK optical multiplexers, delivers an interoperable solution. The modulator drivers include solutions for the 100Gbit/s long-haul market, as well as the 400Gbit/s-capable silicon platforms. The three-stage, 28Gbit/s lithium niobate optical modulator driver delivers 7.5V amplitude, and offers good gain and group delay flatness. The laser modulator comes in an SMT package, making it suitable for integration in small form-factor transponders.
