Texas Instruments has introduced a quad-channel, 16bit ADC for magnetic resonance imaging applications. The ADS5263 ADC is available in 14 and 16bit resolution modes that allows designers to switch between low-power and high-speed, high-resolution operation. In the 16bit resolution mode, the ADC delivers a SNR of 84.6dBFS with an input of 10MHz whereas in the 14bit mode, the device delivers 73dBFS with 10MHz input. The company claims that the ADC's quad-channel architecture and power consumption of 380mW per channel allow engineers to design compact medical imaging systems. The ADC also has a non-magnetic package option that enables the use of the device in a strong magnetic field. The ADC is available in a 9x9mm QFN package and is also suitable for medical instrumentation applications.
