Microchip has introduced a 30V input buck switching regulator that is suitable for use in set-top boxes, LED lighting, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems and power meters. The MCP16301 regulator features an input voltage range of 4 to 30V, and a 600mA output across a voltage range of 2 to 15V. It incorporates a high-side switch, which is integrated into the 6pin SOT-23 package. The regulator minimises the number of external components to enable an efficient solution for stepping down 12 to 24V DC power rails to drive PIC microcontrollers. The high-speed peak current mode control of the regulator provides a swift response to input-voltage and load transients in power applications. The company claims that the switching regulator's on-board control-loop compensation and slope compensation feature simplifies the complex task of stabilising the converter control system.Â
