The 6A synchronous buck regulator from Intersil operates up to 2.7V and offers an automatic pulse frequency modulation mode. The ISL8016 regulator has a switching frequency of up to 4MHz, making it suitable for applications such as industrial automation, communications infrastructure equipment, consumer electronics and instrumentation. It also offers good efficiency across the entire load range. The regulator integrates two on-resistance MOSFETs, and allows users to adjust to the operating frequency from 500kHz to 4MHz. It also offers a default 1MHz operation, a fixed internal 1ms soft start and an internal compensation feature.

The device accepts a single 2.7 to 5.5V input and can operate at 100% duty cycle. According to the company, the user can program a wide range of output voltages from 0.6V to Vin. The regulator also has fixed output versions between 1.2 and 3.3V. It also supports current-sharing with phase interleaving and allows designers to provide multiples of 6A output current. For applications requiring less than 6A, the regulators offers reduced current limit settings to utilise small inductors. The regulator is available in a 3x4mm 20pin QFN lead-free package with exposed pad for low thermal resistance.
